Saint Joseph’s Jumps Ahead Early, Falls Late to Clark

WORCESTER, MA – The Saint Joseph's College Monks traveled to Worcester on Wednesday to take on Clark University, with first pitch set for 4:00 p.m.

After three scoreless innings, the Monks broke through in the top of the fourth with a five-run outburst. Ethan Belvin (Claremont, N.H.) got things going with a triple down the left field line, setting up Jake Carlisle for a two-run homer. Nick Villano (Peabody, MA) followed with a double and later scored on a fielder's choice from Luke Doughty (York, ME). Nic Frink (Scarborough, ME) capped off the rally with a two-run single through the right side, giving Saint Joseph's a 5-0 lead.

Clark got on the board in the bottom of the fifth, taking advantage of a passed ball and a wild pitch to score twice. The Cougars seized control in the seventh, plating four runs to jump ahead 6-5. Ryan Caulfield's two-run single tied the game before he came around to score on Dom Mariani's sacrifice fly.

Clark tacked on five more runs in the eighth, highlighted by Anthony Locasto's two-run double down the right field line, putting the game out of reach at 11-5.
