WEST ROXBURY, MA- The Saint Joseph's College Monks (7-5) fell 10-6 to Lasell University (9-6). The Lasers jumped out to a fast start and maintained control throughout, fending off the Monks' rally to secure the win on Saturday.
Lasell set the tone early, plating three runs in the first inning, sparked by C. Mills' leadoff home run. B. Long added a solo shot in the second, and a two-run blast from P. Clare in the third helped extend the lead to 7-0.
Saint Joseph's finally broke through in the fourth when
Nic Frink (Scarborough, ME) launched a solo homer, but the offense remained quiet until the seventh. A double from
Jake Carlisle (Portsmouth, NH) led to two runs, giving the Monks some life.
Lasell tacked on two more runs in the seventh and another in the eighth, making it 10-3 heading into the ninth.
Nick Villano (Peabody, MA) provided some late fireworks for Saint Joseph's, crushing a two-run homer to cut the deficit to four. Laser's pitcher Caldwell shut the door, recording the final out to seal the win for Lasell.
