STANDISH, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy (1-2) edged out Saint Joseph's College (2-3, 1-0) in a thrilling 15-12 non-conference men's lacrosse matchup at the SJC Athletics Complex on Wednesday afternoon.
How It Happened:
The Monks got off to a strong start, with senior Calvin Heline (Amesbury, MA) and Cam Raymond (Saco, ME) each scoring to help Saint Joseph's take a 3-1 lead after the first quarter.
Saint Joseph's kept the momentum going in the second quarter, with key goals from Brandon Cavicchi (Kingston, MA) and Joseph Kiedaisch (Westminster, MA). Tiger Hopkins (Leeds, ME) added another goal with just 2:00 left, giving the Monks a 7-6 lead at halftime.
The third quarter was a back-and-forth battle, with both teams exchanging goals. Heline netted two goals, including one at 14:26 to put the Monks up 8-6. Will Levesque then added an important goal late, with 1:42 remaining, giving Saint Joseph's an 11-10 lead heading into the final period.
Maine Maritime came alive in the fourth quarter, outscoring Saint Joseph's 5-1. After Hopkins tied the game at 11-11 with 5:26 left, the Mariners went on a four-goal run to close out the game and secure the win.

Maine Maritime had the edge in shots (49-35), ground balls (41-32), and face-off wins (19-11). The Monks committed 32 turnovers, while the Mariners had 28.

SJC's Reed Wescott (Windham, Maine) made 12 saves in a complete-game effort while Maine Maritime's Andrew Noyes recorded 8 saves to pick up the win.
