Box Score 2 CLERMONT, FL- Saint Joseph's College (0-2) opened up their season at The Spring Games on Sunday against Pacific Lutheran and Montclair State.
Saint Joseph's 2, Pacific Lutheran 18
The Saint Joseph's softball team kicked off its 2025 season with a tough 18-2 loss to Pacific Lutheran in Clermont, Florida. The Monks got off to a promising start, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but the Lutes responded in dominant fashion, scoring 18 unanswered runs over the next four innings to end the game in five innings.
Saint Joseph's capitalized early when Makayla Quintal (Gorham, ME) worked a walk and came around to score on an Sylvia Foley (Scarborough, ME) single. Foley later crossed the plate on a Pacific Lutheran error during Paige Connery's (Tyngsboro, MA) at-bat.
The Lutes took control in the second inning, erupting for six runs on six hits to claim a 6-2 lead. They continued to pile on, adding four more in the third—highlighted by a three-run homer—before tacking on another eight runs over the final two frames.Â
Saint Joseph's managed one hit while committing four errors while Pacific Lutheran collected 18 hits.
On the mound, Rhinehart earned the win for the Lutes, allowing just one hit over four innings while striking out four. Madison Pelletier (New Gloucester, ME) took the loss for the Monks, surrendering six runs in two innings.
Saint Joseph's 3, Montclair State 9
Saint Joseph's put up a strong effort in the second game of their season-opening doubleheader but ultimately fell to Montclair State, 9-3.
The Monks once again struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the opening inning. Sadie Tirrell (Naples, ME) doubled, moved to third on an Makayla Quintal walk, and scored on an Sylvia Foley sacrifice fly. However, Montclair State responded immediately, taking advantage of two Monks' errors to push across four runs in the bottom half of the inning.
After three scoreless frames, Saint Joseph's cut the deficit to 4-2 in the fifth. Charlotte Cloutier (Lewiston, ME) worked a walk, advanced on singles from Tirrell and Quintal, and came home on a sacrifice fly from Chantelle Bouchard (Biddeford, ME).
The Red Hawks put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fifth, breaking things open with a five-run outburst. Montclair delivered a key hit, a two-run double, while another Monks miscue helped Montclair State extend its lead to 9-2.
Saint Joseph's continued to battle, adding a run in the seventh when Quintal doubled and scored on a Bouchard single, but the rally fell short.
Tirrell (2-for-4, 2B) and Quintal (2-for-3, 2B, BB) paced the Monks' offense, while Bouchard drove in two runs.
Weigand went the distance for Montclair State, allowing three runs on seven hits in a complete-game effort. Rylee Page took the loss for Saint Joseph's, surrendering nine runs (five earned) over 4.1 innings.
