STANDISH, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College men's lacrosse team delivered a dominant performance on Senior Day, shutting out Anna Maria College 23-0 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup Sunday afternoon at the SJC Athletics Complex.
Before the opening faceoff, the Monks honored 11 seniors—Tyler Moscato (West Haven, CT), Calvin Heline (Amesbury, MA), Aidan Dennis (Hooksett, NH), Ryan Bogdanski (Southington, CT), Jack Leach (Danvers, MA) , Will Levesque (Marlow, NH), Declan Covell (Merrimack, NH), Michael Jordan (Saco, ME), Anthony Samiotes (Hamstead, NH), and Liam Greene (Mansfield, MA)—for their dedication and impact on the program over the past four years.
And when the game began, that senior class made sure it was a day to remember.
Heline and Moscato each scored twice, while Bogdanski and Leach chipped in with a goal apiece. Greene was lights out between the pipes, stopping all 10 shots he faced in three quarters of work before giving way to Jake Dernier in the fourth. Samiotes caused two turnovers to help anchor the defense, and Jordan contributed a caused turnover and two ground balls as part of a gritty defensive showing.
The Monks (5-8, 3-4 GNAC) came out firing, racing to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter and pushing it to 11-0 by halftime. The offense didn't let up after the break, outshooting the AMCATS 65-21 and putting 39 shots on target to Anna Maria's 13.
Noah Schaeffer (Gray, ME) led all scorers with a career-high seven points, netting four goals and handing out three assists. Tiger Hopkins (Leeds, ME) continued to shine as a playmaker, finishing with six points on a goal and five assists.
Caleb Reardon (Belchertown, MA) registered a hat trick, while Nic Michaud (Wales, ME), Brandon Cavicchi (Kingston, MA), and Joseph Kiedaisch (Westminster, MA) each tallied a pair of goals to round out a well-balanced offensive effort.
Saint Joseph's controlled nearly every facet of the game—winning ground balls (28-24), forcing 33 turnovers, and staying aggressive on both ends of the field. The Monks' defense, anchored by their senior leaders, turned in a complete performance to secure the program's first-ever shutout victory in GNAC conference history.
Anna Maria (4-9, 0-8 GNAC) couldn't find a rhythm offensively, despite a solid 16-save outing from goalie Caden Rakes. The AMCATS also came up empty on three man-up opportunities.
