Monks Split GNAC Doubleheader with Rivier

STANDISH, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College (13-14, 5-7) baseball team earned a split in Thursday's conference doubleheader against Rivier University (11-15, 6-6). After a tough 3-1 loss in the opener, the Monks bounced back in a big way, cruising to a 16-4 win in Game Two.

Game 1: Rivier 3, Saint Joseph's 1

Saint Joseph's got on the board early in the opener. Ryan Kastle (Concord, N.H.) sparked the Monks scoring in the first inning with a single, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Nic Frink's (Scarborough, ME) RBI single. That 1-0 lead held until the seventh inning, thanks in large part to a strong outing from starter Logan Dee (Laconia, N.H.), who went 6.1 innings and gave up just one run on five hits while striking out three.

Rivier tied things up in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Ben O'Connell, and then pulled ahead in the ninth. LuisTejada scored the go-ahead run on Alex Gallicano's single, and Gallicano came around to score on Jacob Boudreau's RBI knock.

Hugh Barrett took the loss in relief, while Rivier's Nate Bonacorsi earned the win, limiting the Monks to one run over eight innings. Ty Baker picked up the save for Rivier.

Nic Frink led Saint Joseph's at the plate, going 3-for-3 with the team's lone RBI.

Game 2: Saint Joseph's 16, Rivier 4

The Monks didn't waste any time in the second game, exploding for eight runs in the second inning and never looking back.

Nic Frink highlighted the early surge with a three-run homer, while Jake Carlisle added a two-run single to help break things open. The offense kept rolling with four more runs in the third and another four in the fifth.

Nick Brindle (Pittsfield, MA) had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs. Luke Doughty (York, ME) added a pair of hits, including a double, and Frink capped off his impressive day with four RBIs total.

On the mound, Padraig Mac Seain (Brookline, N.H.) turned in a dominant performance, tossing six shutout innings while allowing just four hits and striking out eight.

Rivier attempted to mount a comback and added a pair of late homers in the seventh from Tejada and Sebastien Reis.
