BIDDEFORD, ME-The Monks (13-19, 6-4) dropped two games to the Nor'easters (9-21, 1-11) on the road on Monday evening.
Game 1: UNE 19, SJC 11
In a game dominated by offense, Saint Joseph's came out swinging, scoring five runs in the first inning thanks to a bases-clearing double from Anna Gilbert (Gray, ME). The Monks kept the pressure on with another run in the third, when Madison Pelletier (New Gloucester, ME) doubled and scored on a Paige Connery (Tyngsboro, MA) sacrifice fly.
UNE responded with big innings of their own, including a 12-run third that gave them the lead. The Monks didn't back down, putting up three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to keep the pressure on.
Sylvia Foley (Scarborough, ME) led the way at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3. Pelletier (2-for-2, double, RBI) and Makayla Quintal (Gorham, ME) (2-for-3, double, RBI) also had strong games at the plate.
Game 2: UNE 5, SJC 4
Game two was a much tighter contest, with strong pitching and late-inning excitement from both sides. Down 2-1 heading into the seventh, Saint Joseph's rallied but came up short.Â
Charlotte Cloutier (Lewiston, ME) got things going with a single, and after a sacrifice bunt by Quintal, Sadie Tirrell (Gorham, ME) tied the game with a groundout RBI. Chantelle Bouchard (Biddeford, ME) followed with a clutch RBI single to give the Monks the lead, and Foley extended it with a well-placed triple to right, making it 4-2.
UNE answered in their half of the inning, stringing together a few key hits and ultimately walking it off with a two-run triple.Â
Miranda Northrup (Whitefield, ME) turned in a solid start, allowing just two runs over five innings. Connery pitched in relief and was tagged with the loss in a tight finish. Tirrell and Bouchard each drove in two runs, while Foley continued her hot hitting with another RBI.
