Saint Joseph’s Sweeps Doubleheader Against New England College

STANDISH, ME-The Saint Joseph's Monks picked up a pair of wins on Saturday at Larry Mahaney Diamond, outlasting New England College in a thrilling 12-inning opener before cruising to a dominant shutout in Game 2.

Game 1: Monks 4, NEC 3 (12 innings)
The opener was a nail-biter that needed 12 innings to settle. The Monks clawed back from a 3-0 deficit to pull out a 4-3 win, thanks to clutch hitting and shutdown relief pitching.

NEC jumped out early, scoring single runs in the second, third, and fourth innings. The Monks couldn't break through against NEC's starter until the eighth, when Dawson Gundlah (York, ME) sparked a rally with a single. He later scored on Dylan Brander's (Merrimack, NH) double, and an error allowed two more runs to come across, tying the game.

In the 12th, Gundlah again got things going with a leadoff single. After advancing to third, he came home on Nick Villano's (Peabody, MA) go-ahead RBI single.

Will Dionne (Somerset, MA) was outstanding out of the bullpen, tossing five scoreless innings and striking out nine to earn the win. Gundlah finished with three hits, while Vinny O'Leary (North Quincy, MA) and Luke Doughty (York, ME) also chipped in with three-hit games.

Game 2: Monks 12, NEC 0 (7 innings)
Game two was all Monks. Behind a dominant start from Padraig Mac Seain (Brookline, NH) and an explosive offense, Saint Joseph's rolled to a 12-0 victory in seven innings.

After a quiet first inning, the Monks put up two runs in the second and never looked back, adding four more in the third, three in the fourth, and more in the fifth and seventh.

Padraig Mac Seain struck out 11 over 5.1 shutout innings. The offense racked up 14 hits, led by Nick Brindle's (Pittsfield, MA) 3-for-4 day with three RBIs. Gundlah and Jake Carlisle (Portsmouth, NH) each drove in a pair, and several others had multi-hit performances.

Relievers Nate Leavitt (Alton, NH) and Victor Caira (Newton, MA) closed it out, combining with Padraig Mac Seain to strike out 15 and allow just five hits.
