BOSTON, Mass. — A dominant second half helped the Saint Joseph's College women's lacrosse team cruise to a 16-8 win over Emmanuel College in GNAC North Division play Wednesday evening.
The Monks (9-4, 5-1 GNAC North) pulled away after halftime, outscoring the Saints (7-7, 3-2) 8-3 over the final two quarters, including a 4-0 shutout in the fourth.
Taylor Dumond (Minisink, NY) led the charge with five goals, while seniors Celia Melansonb (Waterford, ME) (1 goal, 4 assists) and Sophia Burton (Westtown, NY) (3 goals, 2 assists) each chipped in with five points. Dinah Wadleigh (Augusta, ME) and Mackenzie Siebert (Naples, ME) added hat tricks, with Siebert also handing out an assist. Ella Highbarger (Kennebunk, ME) rounded out the offense with a goal and an assist.
The game was evenly matched early on, with both teams knotted at 4-4 in the second quarter. Saint Joseph's then took control with three straight goals, including man-up scores from Dumond and Highbarger.
The Monks flexed their offensive muscle throughout the game, outshooting Emmanuel 29-15 overall and 20-12 on goal. Goalie Morgan Wright (Chelmsford, MA) made four saves to pick up the win.
On the defensive end, Ava Molineaux (Rowley, MA) stood out with five ground balls, five caused turnovers, and seven draw controls. Elle Hall (Casco, ME) added three ground balls and three caused turnovers, while Alexis Copp (New Durham, NH) forced three turnovers of her own.
