BIDDEFORD, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (2-1) capped a three-match appearance in the Maine Coast Classic with a 3-1 (17-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-20) victory over the University of New England (1-2) at the Harold Alfond Forum on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After a sluggish opening set in which the Monks hit just .054 (eight kills, six errors on 37 attempts) in a 25-17 loss, Saint Joseph's regrouped and steadily took control. The Monks improved their hitting efficiency with each successive set, winning three straight to close out a 3-1 triumph and move to 2-1 on the season.
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's held a decisive 17-5 advantage in service aces and also posted edges in digs (70-69) and total blocks (6-3). The University of New England held a narrow 46-45 lead in kills while both teams finished with 44 assists.
LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:
- Junior Greta Mackintosh (Plymouth, Mass.) registered a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs and added a pair of block assists
- Senior Nadia Sixto (Chattanooga, Tenn.) tallied 10 kills, four digs, and a block assist
- Freshman Addison Thomas (London, Ohio) recorded a .389 attack percentage with eight kills and one error in 18 attempts
- Freshman Emily Mendelson (Springboro, Ohio) added six kills, an ace, and a block assist
- Junior Larisa Comolli (Nashua, N.H.) delivered three kills, three aces, and five total blocks
- First-year Livy McDonough (West Friendship, Md.) contributed five aces and 10 digs
- Junior Sabrina Arcilla (Rivervale, N.J.) notched four aces, two assists, and 11 digs
- Junior Tamya Johnson (Boston, Mass.) posted 16 assists, two kills, and five digs and freshman Maddie Garrett (Euless, Texas) chipped in with two kills, 13 assists, and four digs
LEADERS – UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND:
- Chloe Miracle blasted a match-high 17 kills with 10 digs
- Kailyn Reilly and Ellijah Hanley recorded nine kills apiece
- Hannah Nowell added seven kills, three total blocks, and 10 digs
- Kelsey Bradshaw picked up a match-high 18 digs while Hayley Shult contributed 10 digs and 41 assists, also a match-high
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the victory, the Monks improve to 9-65 all-time against the University of New England, earning their first win over the Nor'easters since the 2022 season.
