STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) has announced its weekly honors, and Saint Joseph's College freshman forward Ava Markham (Belfast, Maine) has been named GNAC Field Hockey Rookie of the Week for the second straight reporting period and the third time this fall.
Markham earned the accolade after posting a goal and two assists in the Monks' 3–1 win at Rivier University on Saturday. Her third-quarter strike stood as the game-winner.
Through eight starts this season, Markham has totaled four goals and five assists for 13 points. Three of her four goals have been game-winners. She leads the team in assists and ranks third in both goals and points.
Markham is the first SJC field hockey player to collect three GNAC Rookie of the Week awards in a season since teammate Maya Waryas (Bellows Falls, Vt.) did so as a freshman in 2022; former standout Libby Pomerleau also earned three rookie honors in 2016.
Saint Joseph's visits the University of Southern Maine tonight at 7:00 PM.
