Men’s Track & Field Competes at Maine State Indoor Championships

LEWISTON, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College men's track and field team turned in a strong all-around effort at the Maine State Indoor Championships on Saturday at Bates College-Merrill Gymnasium, highlighted by a title in the high jump, a runner-up finish in the long jump, and several top-eight performances on the track and in the throws.

"We competed well today, and I feel this group is ready for the conference championship next week," said Head Coach Mike Burleson. "Our season-long work continues to show through strong performances from both our men's and women's teams. They are locking in, bringing good energy and doing the little things right which are all key this time of year to find individual and team success."

"Stephen Pierre delivered a standout performance, winning the high jump, placing second in the long jump, and breaking the school record in the hurdles—earning him Maine State Championship Field Athlete of the Meet honors, the first in program history," added Burleson. "His performance reflects the caliber of athlete he is and highlights the continued growth of our program."

HURDLES
The Monks put together another strong day in the 60-meter hurdles.

Freshman Stephen Pierre ran 8.53 in the prelims to hit the New England Division III provisional standard, while sophomore John Read advanced with an 8.77, also at the provisional mark. In the final, Read placed 6th in 8.73, adding three points to the team score, with sophomore Dalton Feeney contributing depth after a 10.07 in the prelims.

Pierre's prelim performance also broke the Saint Joseph's school record in the 60-meter hurdles, adding to an already historic day.

JUMPS
The jumps crew led the way for Saint Joseph's with multiple podium finishes.

Pierre dominated the high jump, winning the event with a clearance of 1.92m (6' 3.5"), a mark that meets both the New England Division III automatic and provisional standards and earns 10 points. Sophomore Junior Antonio and sophomore Martinho Codo both cleared 1.67m (5' 5.75"), placing 8th and 10th, respectively, as the Monks stacked three athletes in the event.

In the long jump, Pierre picked up a second podium finish, placing 2nd with 6.79m (22' 3.5") for eight more points. Junior Devonte Prom (5.83m), freshman Nick Munyanez (5.65m), senior Carl Peters (5.52m), Vesprini (5.33m), and freshman Patrick Murphy (4.08m) provided strong depth across both flights.

Munyanez added a 5th-place finish in the triple jump with a best of 12.52m (41' 1"), contributing four points, while Peters reached 11.31m (37' 1.25"). Prom fouled out but continued to add competitive presence in the pit.

Keresey also competed in the pole vault, clearing 3.40m (11' 1.75") to finish 12th.
