STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (5-5, 4-1 GNAC) earned a 27-0 victory over Colby-Sawyer College (0-3, 0-3 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's lacrosse action on Wednesday evening at the SJC Athletics Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Saint Joseph's established the pace early, scoring nine times in the opening quarter. Sophomore Noah Schaeffer (Gray, Maine), freshman Aidan Byrne (West Newbury, Mass.), and sophomore Cody Southwick (Saco, Maine) helped spark the fast start, while junior Brandon Cavicchi (Kingston, Mass.) scored four times in the frame. Junior Nicolas Michaud (Wales, Maine) and senior David Cook (Upton, Mass.) also tallied as the Monks carried a 9-0 lead into the second.
The Monks added eight more goals in the second quarter to bring a 17-0 advantage into halftime. Junior Joseph Kiedaisch (Westminster, Mass.) scored twice in the period, while graduate student Jack Leach (Pembroke, Mass.), sophomore Maxwell Plunske (South Windsor, Conn.), Michaud, Cavicchi, Cook, and Schaeffer also found the back of the net.
Saint Joseph's maintained its rhythm after the break and added 10 goals over the final two quarters to close out the victory. Michaud scored three times in the second half, while Cavicchi added two more goals. Schaeffer, Byrne, Kiedaisch, sophomore Andre Pelletier (East Barre, Vt.), and sophomore Caleb Reardon (Belchertown, Mass.) also contributed after halftime.

Saint Joseph's held advantages in shots (56-3), shots on goal (37-1), ground balls (46-7), and faceoffs (31-0). The Monks also converted 16 of 19 clearing attempts.
THE KEEPERS:
The Monks split time in net, with junior Reed Wescott (Windham, Maine) earning the win. Freshman Sean Cushing (Nobleboro, Maine) recorded one save in the second half.
Colby-Sawyer first-year goalkeeper Jackson Cleveland (Falmouth, Maine) totaled 10 saves in the setback.

With the win, Saint Joseph's opens the all-time series with Colby-Sawyer College at 1-0 in the first varsity meeting between the programs, as the Chargers are competing in their inaugural season of men's lacrosse.
