WINTHROP, Mass. — The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly accolades have been announced and Saint Joseph's College freshman Damir Brkic (South Portland, Maine) has been selected as the GNAC Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week.
Brkic starred in the Monks' conference opener against Rivier University, scoring both Saint Joseph's goals. He opened the scoring with a penalty kick in the 33rd minute and struck again in the 80th minute, finishing a pass from Nick Marion (Windham, Maine) into the bottom-right corner.
Earlier in the week, Brkic played 72 minutes and registered a shot on goal against a strong Bates College squad.
With his two-goal performance against Rivier, Brkic doubled his season total to four goals. His team-leading nine points rank second in the GNAC, while he is also tied for second in the conference in goals.
This marks the first GNAC weekly honor of Brkic's Saint Joseph's career. He is the first Monk to earn GNAC Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week honors since Henry Wylde received the award on October 11, 2022.
The Monks return to action on September 15 when they travel to Emmanuel College for a 7:00 PM conference contest.
