Standish, ME - Three players scored in double figures to lead
the Saint Joseph's College women's basketball team to a 67-35 win
over Maine Machias.
The Monks (2-2) were led by a pair of sophomores, Aly
Ludwig (Waldoboro, ME), who tied her career best with 13
points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and Megan
Willette (Waterville, ME) with 11 points, 4 rebounds and 4
steals.
First year Carolyn Freeman (Scarborough, ME)
had 10 points for her fourth consecutive double digit scoring
performance this season.
St. Joe's jumped out to an 8-0 lead over the first few minutes
and Machias was unable to respond as the Monks build up a 41-20
lead by half-time. The SJC defense forced 33 Machias turnovers and
had a season-high 18 steals.
Junior Sara Wells (Phippsburg, ME) turned in a strong
performance for the Clippers (2-8) with 13 points and 8 rebounds,
and senior Alyssa Larochelle (Portland, ME) had 8 points and a
game-high 13 rebounds.
St. Joe's hosts Maine Presque Isle on Friday, December 1 at 5
p.m. in game one of the Merry Monk Tournament. College of Saint
Joseph (VT) takes on John Jay (NY) in game two at 7 p.m.
