Monks Storm Past Falcons on McDevitt Legacy Day

Box Score

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (9-10, 4-2 GNAC) raced past Albertus Magnus College (3-16, 2-4 GNAC), 69-48, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball contest on Mike McDevitt Court at the Harold Alfond Center on Saturday afternoon.

HONORING A LEGEND:

Saint Joseph's hosted "Mike McDevitt Legacy Day" on Saturday, honoring former longtime coach Mike McDevitt and welcoming back numerous men's and women's basketball alumni. A 1983 Saint Joseph's College of Maine graduate, McDevitt retired from coaching in April of 2025 after 33 seasons on the bench, compiling a 667–231 (.743) career record, recording 20-win seasons in 22 years, and never enduring a losing campaign. One of the most accomplished coaches in NCAA Division III women's basketball history, he guided the Monks to 19 championships—including six Great Northeast Athletic Conference titles—and 14 national tournament appearances split evenly between the NAIA and NCAA Division III.

Saint Joseph's held a brief ceremony honoring McDevitt between games of Saturday's doubleheader with Albertus Magnus and hosted an alumni game prior to warmups.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Albertus Magnus struck first with an early 4-0 edge, but the Monks answered quickly from the perimeter and carried an 18-9 advantage out of the opening quarter. Saint Joseph's continued to build separation in the second stanza—stretching the margin to as many as 17—before taking a 35-24 lead into intermission. Albertus Magnus chipped away in the third to get within single digits, but the Monks flipped the switch in the final frame, opening the fourth on an 8-0 burst and outscoring the visitors 22-10 over the last 10 minutes to seal the 21-point victory.

STATS OF THE GAME:

Saint Joseph's forced 20 turnovers and converted them into 22 points and held a 25-0 advantage in bench points in the victory. Albertus Magnus netted just eight points off nine SJC turnovers in the losing bid.
