Standish, ME - Visiting Newbury College appeared
overmatched Saturday afternoon at the Alfond Center as the SJC
women's basketball team downed the D3 Independent foe 69-35. A
stingy Monks defense held the Nighthawks (0-16) to just 28% from

(Scarborough, ME) paced St. Joe's with 16 points and four steals in
just 25 minutes of play.
The Monks (8-10) raced out to a 33-17 halftime lead
by forcing 12 turnovers and allowing Newbury just 7 first half
baskets.
St. Joe's maintained a 16-point lead through the
opening minutes of the second half until a three-point play by SO
Sarah Banks (Swans Island, ME) ignited the Monks
offense and the lead swelled to 33 points.
Katelyn Mack drilled a three-pointer and Jeanellys
Susana scored for the Nighthawks to cut the lead to 27 at 2:33. SJC
SR Jamie Morrison (Auburn, ME) connected on a pair
of free throws and FY Jaimee Brett (Otisfield, ME)
closed out the game scoring the final four points of the contest.
Junior captains Megan Farrell (Abington, MA) and
Marie Lint (Orono, ME) finished with 12 and 10
points, respectively.
Newbury was led by Jessica Lightfoot with 11 points
and Jessie Laliberty chipped in with 8 points. Taraja Laws pulled
down a game-high 14 rebounds.
