STANDISH, ME - Carolyn Freeman '10 (Scarborough, ME/McAuley) scored a game-high 19 points off a 5-8 effort from beyond the arc and five Monks scored 10 or more points as Saint Joseph's (5-3) defeated Green Mountain (3-3) in the Merry Monk Championship. Freeman, who averaged 16 points and 8.5 rebounds in two tourney games, was named as the Merry Monk Most Valuable Player for the second consecutive season.

University of Maine-Fort Kent topped University of Maine-Presque Isle, 48-37, in the consolation contest.

Megan McDevitt '12 (Cumberland, ME) was 6-9 from the field and tallied 15 points with 8 caroms and Ashley Geel '12 (St. George, ME) notched her third double-double of the year with 12 points and 11 boards for the Monks. Allie Parent '12 (Camden, ME) had 11 points, 4 assists and 3 steals and Meghan Daigle '10 (Grantham, NH), who was selected to the All-Tournament Team, recorded 10 points and 7 rebounds in the victory.

Emma Brinley-Buckley '10 (Lakeville, CT) scored 12 points and grabbed 11 boards in a double-double effort of her own and Chelsea Paul '13 (Northville, NY) scored a team-high 16 points in a losing effort. Christin Louras '10 (Rutland, VT) was named to the All-Tournament Team and averaged 8.5 PPG in the tourney.

Saint Joseph's shot an even 50% (30-60) and never trailed in the one-sided contest. The Monks set the tone early and led 10-2, with five points from Geel, after 4:02 of play. Green Mountain fought back with a 10-3 outburst and trailed 15-12 after Paul made a layup at the 11:34 mark, but the Monks forged an insurmountable lead with a 14-1 surge over the next six minutes and held a double-digit lead for the duration of the contest.

A free throw from Danyelle Shufelt '13 (Sutton, VT) with 2:03 left in the game put the Monks up a game-high 31 points, 74-43. Shufelt dealt a team-high 5 assists in the SJC triumph.

Amy Jordan '13 (Forestdale, MA), in her second game, recorded her first collegiate points with a pair of free throws late in the game and went on to connect on her first NCAA basket two minutes later.

St. Joe's shot 50% (30-60) from the field, 47.1% (8-17) from beyond the arc and 66.7% (10-15) from the FT line, while Green Mountain mustered a 34.6% (18-52) effort from the floor, shot 33.3% (2-6) from three-point distance and 57.1% (12-21) from the line. The Monks held a 42-28 advantage on the boards and dished out 26 assists on 30 field goals.

St. Joe's will play at Husson on Saturday, December 12^th at 2:00 PM, while Green Mountain will play at Bay Path College on Wednesday at 8:00 PM.

Merry Monk Tournament Championship

University of Maine-Fort Kent (2-3) defeated University of Maine-Presque Isle (0-4), 48-37, in the Merry Monk Tournament Consolation contest on Saturday afternoon. Kristin Violette '10 (Eagle Lake, ME) tallied 14 points, a game-high, 7 boards, 4 blocks and 3 steals to lead the Bengals past the Owls. Talisha Herring '10 (Jct. City, KS) scored 10 points off the bench for UMFK.

Bengals guard Amber Garrison '11 (Oroville, CA) received All-Tournament honors after averaging 6.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.0 assists during the tourney.

Emily Moore '12 (Lisbon, ME) led the Owls with 11 points and 9 caroms, while teammate Emily Pelletier '13 (Madawaska, ME) chipped in with 9 points in the losing effort. Moore, who averaged 9.5 points and 6.5 boards in the Owls' two games, was selected as the Presque Isle All-Tournament Team recipient for her efforts

The Owls led 15-10 after Julie Peers '11 (Limestone, ME) made a jumpshot at the 6:53 mark of the first half. A UMFK surge ensued, as the Bengals took control of the game with a 14-2 run that ended with a Herring layup, and UMFK ahead 24-17, three minutes later. The Bengals took a 26-20 lead into the locker room at half time.

Presque Isle fought back with an 8-2 outburst in the opening minutes of the second stanza to forge a 28-28 stalemate, but the Bengals outscored the Owls by a 20-9 margin for the remainder of play to earn a 48-37 triumph.
