NEWTON, MA – Saint Joseph's (11-7, 5-2 GNAC) raced past Mount Ida College (6-12, 0-6 GNAC), 74-49, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball contest on Wednesday evening. Freshman center Morgan Cahill (Yarmouth, Maine) scored a career-high 24 points off a 10-12 effort from the field and a 4-4 performance from the free throw line in the victory.

Cahill scored eight of the Monks' first 10 points over the opening four minutes and Saint Joseph's rattled off a 19-4 run on the way to securing a 27-10 cushion with nearly nine minutes remaining in the first half. The Monks proceeded to own a double-digit lead for the rest of the contest and held a game-high 29-point advantage after Cahill netted a pair of freebies midway through the second stanza.

For St. Joe's, junior forward Lindsay Moore (Barrington, N.H.) tallied 16 points, five rebounds, three steals and three assists, junior forward Abby Young (North Yarmouth, Maine) posted eight points and five boards and junior guard Theresa Hendrix (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) added eight points, four caroms, three assists and a pair of steals. Sophomore guard Sarah Assante (Standish, Maine) contributed five points and four assists and junior guard Mackenzie Dufour (Augusta, Maine) dealt a game-high five dimes on the evening.

For Mount Ida, Leslie Campbell (Quincy, Mass.) netted 15, Evebonee Acosta (Hartford, Conn.) registered 14 points, five boards, four assists and three steals and Allison O'Connor (Leominster, Mass.) scored 14 in a losing effort.

Overall, Saint Joseph's shot 45.8% (27-59) from the field, 25% (3-12) from three-point distance and 63% (17-27) from the free throw line while Mount Ida converted 36.2% (17-47) from the floor, 28.6% (2-7) from downtown and 86.7% (13-15) from the line in the conference contest.

The Monks held advantages in rebounds (41-28), assists (22-12) and steals (14-11) and also won the turnover battle (17-27) versus the Mustangs. Saint Joseph's scored 32 points off the Mustangs' miscues and outscored the hosts' bench by a 21-0 margin in the 25-point triumph.

With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 5-1 in the history of the series with Mount Ida College.

The Monks resume play on Saturday when the team travels to University of Saint Joseph (CT) for a 1:00 PM tip-off. The Mustangs host Johnson & Wales University on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
