Monks Fight Past Bengals, 66-53

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Saint Joseph's College held University of Maine at Fort Kent to just two points in the final 7:33 of the fourth quarter to turn a close game into a 66-53 victory on the second day of the Colby College Women's Basketball Classic on Saturday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

Saint Joseph's moves to 6-1 and will take on Colby on Sunday at 1 p.m. in what is now a championship game in the three-team tourney. The Mules beat Maine-Fort Kent on Friday night.

Saturday's game featured a terrific match-up between centers Morgan Cahill of Saint Joseph's and Ericka Saucier of Maine-Fort Kent (8-2). Cahill had a game-high 21 points on 9-for-17 shooting, 10 rebounds, four blocked shots, two assists, and two steals. Saucier also had a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds (12 defensive).

The Bengals led Saint Joseph's for a good portion of the game despite having just seven players suited up. Maine-Fort Kent took a 51-50 lead when Samantha Carapellucci hit one free throw with 7:33 left in the game. The Monks, however, went on a 16-2 run to end the contest.

Kelsi McNamara finished with 16 points and hit four 3-point shots for Saint Joseph's. Emily Benway was 5-for-9 from the field for 12 points and seven rebounds, while Emily Quirion had eight points and four assists. Abbie Eastman had five assists and five boards.

Romanalyn Inocencio had 14 points and four assists for UMFK.  Carapellucci also had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Danielle Carrillo had seven points and four assists.
