Monks Saddle Mustangs with 82-45 Defeat

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (14-1, 7-0 GNAC) toppled Mount Ida College (8-6, 1-4 GNAC), 82-45, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball contest at the Harold Alfond Center on Tuesday evening.

With the victory, the Monks have now won 13-consecutive games for the first time since the 1998-99 season. The team's win streak is tied for the third-longest in program history and counts as the 10th-longest active winning streak in NCAA DIII Women's Basketball.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks took control early and shot 62.5% (20-32) from the field – including a 7-12 (58.3) mark from three-point range – en route to securing a 53-21 lead heading into intermission. Juniors Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) and Hannah Marks (Waldoboro, Maine) netted 11 points apiece in the opening 20 minutes.

With the starters out of the game for the better part of the second half, the Monks continued to add to their lead and attained a game-high 38-point cushion (76-38) after freshman guard Jordan Jabar (Waterville, Maine) converted a traditional three-point play with 6:37 remaining in the game.

STATS OF THE GAME:

Saint Joseph's posted a 40-22 lead in points in the paint and shot 51.6% (32-62) from the field, compared to Mount Ida's 30% (18-60) mark from the floor.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • McNamara notched her second-consecutive double-double with 14 points and 10 assists and was 5-7 from the floor including a 4-6 effort from beyond the arc
  • Marks capped the night with 14 points after making 5-of-6 shots from the floor (including a 4-4 performance from downtown) with five rebounds
  • Junior Julia Champagne (Brunswick, Maine) scored 10 points with two boards and a pair of assists
  • Senior forward Brianne Maloney (South Portland, Maine) came off the bench to tally nine points, five caroms, and three assists
  • Senior guard Emily DeLuca (Gorham, Maine) chipped in with seven points
  • Jabar registered five points and a game-high nine rebounds
  • Sophomore Lexi L'Heureux-Carland (Bridgton, Maine) contributed six points and five boards in 12 minutes off the bench

LEADERS – MOUNT IDA:

  • Senior forward Imani Bumpus (Dedham, Mass.) scored 10 points with three assists, two blocks, and a pair of rebounds
  • Sophomore forward Valerie Martin (Derry, N.H.) added 10 points with three assists and three boards
  • Senior guard Jaime Moscato (Taunton, Mass.) chipped in with nine points

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the result, Saint Joseph's improves to 10-1 in the history of the series with Mount Ida College and has now defeated the Mustangs in 10-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2007-08 season.
