CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College men's alpine ski team placed third with a 5:17.23 composite time in the USCSA Eastern Regional Giant Slalom Championship at Sugarloaf Mountain on Sunday.
With the finish, the Monks – who placed sixth in the slalom race on Saturday - tied for fourth overall with University of Connecticut with nine team place points and have qualified for the USCSA National Championships, which will be held in California at Mammoth Mountain starting on Monday, March 6th.
Castleton University, which won the slalom title on Saturday, completed the weekend with a sweep on the men's side after posting a 5:05.09 team time in the Giant Slalom Championship this afternoon. Babson College (5:08.94), Saint Joseph's (5:17.23), University of Connecticut (5:21.52), and Clarkson University (5:21.62) rounded out the top five competing institutions.
Individually, Castleton placed the top two individuals in Lorenzo Mencaccini (1:40.86) and Aksel Stroem-Hansen (1:41.68) while Babson's Max Bellino finished third with a 1:41.92 performance.
THE RUNDOWN:
- Junior Liam Strobeck (Charlotte, Vt.) finished sixth with a 1:44.12 (51.06, 53.06) effort
- Freshman Logan Davis (Naples, Maine) placed 10th with a 1:45.43 (52.13, 53.30) time
- Freshman Colin Rathbone (Groton, Mass.) was 17th (1:47.68, 53.77 – 53.91)
- Freshman Jack Price (Franconia, N.H.) finished 25th (1:49.31, 53.61 – 55.70)
- Sophomore Jacob Morris (Woodstock, N.H.) was 35th (1:53.71, 55.43 – 58.28)
