LEWISTON, Maine – Saint Joseph's Women's Basketball (1-2. 0-0) fell to Bates College (2-0, 0-0)
73-67 on Saturday afternoon in Alumni Gym.
How it Happened:
The Monks took an early 14-6 lead in the first quarter with buckets from Grace Ramsdell, Angelica Hurley, and Elisabeth Stapelfeld but ended the quarter tied with the Bobcats.
The Monks and Bobcats battled for the lead in the second quarter taking the lead once while the Bobcats took control twice, taking a seven point lead into the third quarter.
Despite 15 points from Hurley in the third quarter the Monks were unable to regain the lead. The Monks bettered their shooting percentage in the third quarter, improving from 33.33% in the second quarter to 61.54%. Although the Monks upped their offensive efforts, the Bobcats pulled ahead in the third quarter by 14 points, their largest lead of the game.
With the Monks down by 10, Stapelfeld netted the first basket for the Monks early in the fourth with Hurley and Russell scoring shortly thereafter. The Monks were unable to catchup to the Bobcats despite their efforts.
Leaders-SJC:
- Graduate Student Angelica Hurley (Groveland, Massachusetts) recorded a game-high 24 points and five rebounds along with three assists
- Junior Grace Ramsdell (Wells, Maine) tallied 17points, six rebounds, and a steal
- Sophomore Maddie Russell (Oakland, Maine) added seven points and four rebounds
- Junior Elisabeth Stapelfeld (Brookline, NH) contributed 12 points and eight rebounds with four assists
