CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine– The Saint Joseph's College alpine ski teams kicked off the 2025 season with a Giant Slalom race at Sugarloaf on Friday morning. The Monks women finished second with 16 points and a 5:11.77 total time in the season opener.
THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
Caleb Gorton (Goffstown, N.H.) placed fourth for the Monks while sophomore Sam Plummer (Raymond, ME) placed 13th for the Monks.
The Beavers delivered a commanding performance, accumulating just six place points to outdistance the competition. New England College secured second place with 41 points, while the University of Maine at Orono followed in third with 48 points.
FOR THE MONKS:
- Gorton finished 4th with a 1:33.68 (44.02, 49.66)
- Sophomore Sam Plummer was 13th with a 1:41.78 (48.48, 53.30) effort
- Colin Rathbone (Groton, MA) posted an impressive time of 42.40 to take the lead after the first run, but unfortunately did not complete his second run, though his strong start was a highlight for the Monks men
THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
The SJC women's team posted 16 points for a second place finish.
The University of Maine-Farmington Beavers clinched the victory by placing four skiers in the top eight and totaling just 11 place points. followed by New England College in third with 32 points, while Bowdoin College took fourth with 45 points.
FOR THE MONKS:
- Freshman Katie Yeaton notched a fourth place finish with a 1:41.76 (46.66, 51.93)
- Maddie Zordan (New Hartford, CT) finished fifth with a 1:44.45 (48.89, 55.56) effort
- Sophomore Hannah Golden (Concord, N.H.) finished seventh with 1:45.56 (50.37, 55.19)
- Junior Sienna Mack (Lincoln, N.H.) was 10th (1:49.32, 52.45/ 56.87)
- Senior Lillian Souweine (Bangor, Maine) placed 13th (1:50.79, 52.46 / 58.33)
