NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Saint Joseph's College (11-4, 4-1) women's basketball team earned an 83-77 overtime victory over the Albertus Magnus Falcons (9-7, 4-1) on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Saint Joseph's College started the contest in an eight point deficit before Angelicaa Hurley (Groveland, MA) put the Monks on the board. Despite the Monks offensive efforts in the first, the Monks were only able to come within two points of the Falcons and entered the second quarter down four.
Grace Ramsdell (Wells, ME) quickly got the Monks on the board at the start of the second, followed by a Madison Lebel (Hermon, ME) layup to tie the score, and another Ramsdell basket giving the Monks their first lead of the evening. While the Monks were able to extend their lead to as many as eight points during the quarter but couldn't hold onto the lead.
The Monks entered the third quarter down 34-27. While the Monks scored 18 points in the third, it wasn't enough to outscore the Falcons. The Falcons entered the fourth with a 52-45 lead over the Monks.
The Monks scored 17 points to the Falcons 10 in the fourth quarter, tying the game at 62-62 on a three from Angelica Hurley with 1:22 left on the clock. The Monks carried the momentum into OT extending their lead to as many as seven twice before holding on for the 83-77 victory.
LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:
- Junior Grace Ramsdell led the Monks with a game high of 28 points, nine rebounds, and a steal
- Graduate Student Angelica Hurley recorded 25 points, five rebounds, one steal, and two assists
- Elisabeth Stapelfeld (Brookline, NH) scored 16 points, six rebounds, and four assists
- Madison Lebel led the Monks in rebounds with a game high of 14
LEADERS – ALBERTUS MAGNUS:
- Caitlyn Scott led the Falcons with 27 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists
- Elizabeth Bruno added 21 points, six rebounds, and a steal
- Diamond White contributed 10 points, five rebounds, six assists, and one steal
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
Today's contest marks the 22nd match-up between the Falcons and the Monks. With the victory, the Monks improved to 21-1 against the Falcons.
