STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honors have been released and Saint Joseph's College freshman Emily Mendelson (Springboro, Ohio) has been named as the GNAC Volleyball Rookie of the Week.
Mendelson delivered a breakout performance in the Monks' crucial 3-1 win over Simmons on Saturday, posting a career-high 13 kills with just one error on 24 swings for an outstanding .500 attack percentage. The first-year middle also added three digs and two total blocks as Saint Joseph's secured the #3 seed in the GNAC Tournament. She closed the tri-match with four more kills and a .286 hitting mark in a swift 3-0 sweep of Colby-Sawyer.
In 29 matches – and 98 sets – this fall, Mendelson has recorded 139 kills with a .232 attack percentage, 48 total blocks, and 15 service aces during her freshman campaign. The GNAC weekly honor is the first of her collegiate career.
Saint Joseph's, the #3 seed in the GNAC Tournament, will host #6 Simmons University in a conference quarterfinal on Tuesday at 6:00 PM.
