STANDISH, Maine – The Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) weekly awards have been announced, and Saint Joseph's College freshman guard Layla Facchiano (Auburn, Maine) has been selected as the MWBCA Rookie of the Week.
Facchiano provided a spark off the bench during a 1–1 week for the Monks, averaging 11.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 24.5 minutes per game. She posted 11 points, three rebounds, and four assists in an 81–73 win over Maine Maritime on Wednesday, then matched her scoring output with 11 points while adding six boards in Saturday's setback at Husson.
Through four games this season, Facchiano is averaging 9.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.4 assists while shooting an even 50.0% (14-28) from the field and 63.6% (7-11) from three-point range. She currently leads the Monks in three-point percentage and ranks second on the team in assists (10), field goals made, and three-pointers made, while standing fifth in scoring average.
Saint Joseph's (2–2) will travel to the University of New England tonight for a 6:00 PM non-conference matchup.
