Saint Joseph's Outpaces Emmanuel in Second Half to Win 76-52

BOSTON, MA. - The Saint Joseph's College Monks  (16-6, 9-2) defeated the Emmanuel Saints (11-11, 6-5) 76-52 in a GNAC women's basketball contest on Wednesday evening. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

From the tip-off, the Monks and Saints battled for the lead throughout the first quarter. SJC and Emmanuel both gained the lead three times during the first with the Monks leading by as many as four points twice. The Monks took a narrow 16-14 lead into the second quarter. 

In the second quarter, the Monks and Saints battled for the lead, continuing to exchange the lead three times each. The Saints scored twelve points off turnovers in the second quarter and outscored the Monks 14-12 in the paint. The Monks were unable to hold onto the lead heading into the third quarter, trailing the Saints 33-35. 

The Monks wasted no time coming back for the second half, launching a dominant 14-4 run over the next 4 minutes. Outscoring the Saints 23-10  in the quarter, the Monks took their lead to 11 by the start of the fourth quarter.

The Saints tried to work their way back in the fourth, but the Monks charged forward outscoring the Saints 20-7 for the 76-52 victory. 

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Graduate Student Angelica Hurley (Groveland, MA) recorded a game high of 21 points, eight rebounds, one steal, and one assist

  • Junior Grace Ramsdell (Wells, ME) recorded a double-double tallying 18 points and twelve rebounds, along with four assists and a steal

  • Maddie Russell (Oakfield, ME) added eight points, three rebounds, one assist, and one steal

  • Elisabeth Stapelfeld (Brookline, NH) notched 16 points, three rebounds,three steals, and four assists

 

LEADERS – EMMANUEL:

  • Desiree Robinson led the Saints with 14 points, two rebounds, two steals, and one assist

  • Lia Krumian had nine points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals

  • Jordan Whitehead added nine points and four rebounds
