Mariners No Match for Monks: SJC Claims 72-40 Victory

NEW LONDON, Conn.. - The Saint Joseph's College Monks  (17-6, 10-2) defeated the Mitchell College Mariners (2-16, 0-12) 72-40 in a GNAC women's basketball contest on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

From the tip-off, the Monks dominated leading by 10 or more points six times. The SJC Monks held the Mitchell Mariners to just eight points at the end of the first quarter. 

In the second quarter, the Mariners tried to rally starting the quarter with a three-pointer cutting the Monks lead to six. While the Mariners continued to chip away, they couldn't keep up with the Monks who increased their lead to 35-19 to end the half. 

The Monks wasted no time coming back for the second half, outscoring the Mariners 19-12 for the quarter. 

SJC matched their scoring margin from the first quarter and went on to outscore the Mariners 18-9 in the fourth quarter for the 72-40 victory. 

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Madison Lebel (Hermon, ME) and Grace Ramsdell (Wells, ME) added eight rebounds and six points each
  • Graduate Student Angelica Hurley (Groveland, MA) recorded a game high of 19 points, eight rebounds, one steal, and three assists 
  • Logan Brown (Brunswick, ME) tallied 17 points, six rebounds, two assists, and  a steal
  • Maddie Russell (Oakfield, ME) added nine points, five rebounds, two assists, and one steal

LEADERS – MITCHELL:

  • Jordan Streitmatter and N'Tai Teague  tallied 11 points and five rebounds each
  • Jamya Beddoe recorded ten points and one rebound
