Monks Drop Two Close Games to Albertus Magnus in Sunday Doubleheader

STANDISH, ME-The Saint Joseph's College (7-17, 2-4) softball team came up just short in a pair of tightly contested games against Albertus Magnus (20-10, 11-1) on Sunday afternoon in New Haven, Connecticut.

Game 1: Albertus Magnus 3, Saint Joseph's 2
Despite tallying nine hits in the opener, the Monks couldn't convert enough scoring chances and dropped a 3-2 decision to the Falcons. Albertus Magnus chipped away with single runs in the second, third, and sixth innings to take control.

Saint Joseph's got on the board in the fourth when Chantelle Bouchard (Biddeford, ME) doubled and came around to score on a Madison Pelletier (New Gloucester, ME) RBI single. The Monks mounted a late push in the seventh—Charlotte Cloutier (Lewiston, ME) singled and scored on Bouchard's RBI base hit—but the rally ended when Sadie Tirrell (Naples, ME) was thrown out trying to take third base.

Pelletier went the distance in the circle, giving up three runs on nine hits with two strikeouts. She also had a double and drove in a run at the plate. On the other side, Annabelle Jabs earned the win for Albertus Magnus with 6.2 strong innings and six strikeouts. Ema Signore came on to get the final out and earn the save.

Game 2: Albertus Magnus 2, Saint Joseph's 1
Game two was a classic pitcher's duel, with the Falcons once again edging out the Monks—this time 2-1. Albertus Magnus struck early with a two-run double from Karla Carangelo in the first inning, and that proved to be all the offense they needed.

Saint Joseph's stayed quiet at the plate until the seventh, when Paige Connery (Tynsboro, MA) singled, advanced to third on a miscue, and scored on a sacrifice fly from Cloutier. The Monks threatened again with two runners on, but a flyout to centerfield ended the game.

Miranda Northrup (Whitefield, ME) allowed just three hits and two runs over six innings for the Monks.
