STANDISH, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College softball team swept New England College with a dominant 9-1 win in Game 1 and a dramatic 11-10 walk-off victory in extra innings in the nightcap.
Game 1: Monks 9, Pilgrims 1
In the opener, the Monks turned in a complete performance behind a strong outing from Madison Pelletier (New Gloucester, Maine) and a red-hot offense that racked up 16 hits.
After falling behind briefly in the top of the second, Saint Joseph's responded with four runs in the third inning, sparked by RBI hits from Abby Carpenter (Bath, ME), Silvia Foley (Scarborough, ME), and Pelletier. Anna Gilbert finished the rally with a run-scoring double.
From there, the Monks never looked back—adding insurance runs in the fourth, fifth, and two more in the sixth to put the game out of reach. Pelletier shut things down in the circle, giving up just one run on four hits across six innings.
Chantelle Bouchard (Biddeford, ME) led the way at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Foley and Pelletier also had three hits each, and Gilbert added a double and an RBI. Every player in the starting lineup recorded at least one hit in a well-rounded offensive effort.
Game 2: Monks 11, Pilgrims 10 (8 innings)
The Monks came out swinging, plating four runs in the first thanks to a bases-loaded walk from Foley and RBI singles by Paige Connery (Tyngsboro, MA) and Abbie Green-Sermak (Rehoboth, MA). The Pilgrims answered with five runs in the second to take a 5-4 lead.
Saint Joseph's fought back with a three-run fourth inning, only for New England College to tie the game at 9-9 in the seventh. In the bottom of the eighth, with runners on second and third, Charlotte Cloutier (Franklin, ME) came through in the clutch—lacing a two-run single to bring home the winning run.
Offensively, the Monks tallied 15 hits. Sadie Tirrell (Naples, ME) led the charge earning her 100th career hit with a 3-for-4 performance and two RBIs, while Bouchard also had three hits and an RBI. Connery finished with two hits, Makayla Quintal (Gorham, ME) and Cloutier added two hits apiece.
Grace Giesler had a big game for the Pilgrims, going 4-for-5 with a double, and Ashleigh Lemay drove in three runs, but the Monks had the final word in a thrilling finish.
