Monks Sweep Anna Maria, Take Game One In Extra Innings

Standish, Maine – Saint Joseph's College pulled off a pair of gritty comeback wins on Saturday, sweeping Anna Maria College (9-15, 3-5) in a doubleheader and improving to 13-17 (6-4 GNAC) on the season. The Monks rallied for a 5-4 extra-inning win in the opener, then carried that momentum into Game 2 for a 6-2 victory.

Game 1: Saint Joseph's 5, Anna Maria 4 (8 innings)

Anna Maria jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first—helped by a two-run single from P. Stewart. But the Monks answered right back in the bottom half, plating three runs to quickly get back in it.

After five quiet innings, Saint Joseph's tied things up in the sixth. Sadie Tirrell (Naples, ME) led off with a triple and eventually came around to score on a wild pitch. The game stayed knotted at 4-4 until the eighth, when Madison Pelletier (New Gloucester, ME) worked a bases-loaded walk to score Tirrell and seal the walk-off win.

Pelletier started the game in the circle and tossed three innings, but Rylee Page (Somersworth, NH) shined in relief, throwing 5.1 scoreless frames to pick up the win.

Offensively, Sylvia Foley (Scarborough, ME) had a perfect day at the plate, going 4-for-4, and Makayla Quintal (Gorham, ME) added three hits for the Monks.

Game 2: Saint Joseph's 6, Anna Maria 2

Anna Maria took an early 1-0 lead on an RBI walk. But once again, the Monks responded—this time with a two-run homer from Chantelle Bouchard (Biddeford, ME) in the third inning, bringing home Sadie Tirrell to take the lead.

Both teams traded runs in the fourth. Anna Maria's scored on a fielder's choice while Saint Joseph's answered when Pelletier scored on a passed ball to make it 3-2.

The Monks broke it open in the fifth with a three-run rally that featured RBI doubles from Bouchard and Foley, and an RBI single from Tirrell. That was more than enough support for Rylee Page, who came in for Miranda Northrup from the bullpen, and tossed 3.2 scoreless innings.

Bouchard had a huge game at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a home run, two doubles, and three RBIs.
