Wani, Donato & Mann Collect Top MMBCWA Postseason Honors

STANDISH, Maine – The 2026 Maine Men's Basketball Coaches & Writers Association (MMBCWA) All-State teams and major award winners have been announced, and three members of the GNAC champion Saint Joseph's College men's basketball team claimed top honors.

Junior guard Remijo Wani (Portland, Maine) was named MMBCWA Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, senior forward Wani Donato (Portland, Maine) earned 2026 MMBCWA Defensive Player of the Year honors, and freshman guard Davis Mann (Falmouth, Maine) was selected as the 2026 MMBCWA Rookie of the Year.

Wani also garnered First Team All-State recognition, while Donato was named to both the Second Team All-State and All-Defensive Team and Mann earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team.

Wani repeated as MMBCWA Player of the Year and First Team All-State after another outstanding season for the Monks. He averaged career highs of 22.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game while shooting 49.2% from the field, 40.1% from three-point range, and 75.0% from the free-throw line. Among Maine's Division III players, he ranked second in scoring and total points while also finishing among the state leaders in field goals made, assists, three-pointers made, and rebounding.

Wani also swept Maine State Player of the Year, GNAC Player of the Year, and GNAC Tournament MVP honors for the second straight season. He became the 15th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points during his junior year, and his 22.9 scoring average ranks as the seventh-highest single-season mark in Saint Joseph's history.

Through 80 career games, Wani has totaled 1,364 points, 476 rebounds, 226 assists, and 107 steals. He already ranks among the program leaders in scoring average, free-throw percentage, three-pointers made, field goals made, and total points, and only six players in team history have scored more through their first three seasons.

Donato picked up his first MMBCWA postseason honors after closing out a standout senior campaign. A two-time GNAC Defensive Player of the Year and 2026 First Team All-Conference selection, he started all 29 games and averaged 15.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game while shooting 57.4% from the floor.

Among Maine's Division III players, Donato led the state in blocked shots and ranked among the leaders in field-goal percentage, rebounds, assists, steals, field goals made, and total points. A steady presence throughout his career, he missed just one game during his four years and started each of the final 58 contests of his career.

In 112 games, Donato totaled 1,252 points, 641 rebounds, 266 assists, 120 blocked shots, and 119 steals while shooting 55.9% from the floor. He finished his career ranked fourth in program history in blocks and 13th in rebounds and is one of only two players in Saint Joseph's history to record at least 1,200 points, 600 rebounds, and 250 assists while shooting 50.0% or better from the field, joining John Wassenbergh '96.

Mann established himself as one of the state's top newcomers this winter, averaging 13.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game while starting 27 of 28 contests. He shot 45.6% (136-298) from the field, 29.5% (31-102) from three-point range, and 86.2% (81-94) from the free-throw line — the second-best mark in the state and the top free-throw percentage ever recorded by a freshman at Saint Joseph's College.

A five-time MMBCWA Rookie of the Week honoree, Mann also ranked third in the state in offensive rebounds (71) and ninth in free throws made (81). With the Monks dealing with injuries to key players early in the season, he stepped into a larger role and helped steady the rotation. His Rookie of the Year selection gives Saint Joseph's the award in back-to-back seasons, following Silvano Ismail in 2025.

Led by fifth-year head coach Tyler Ackley, who was named GNAC Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season, Saint Joseph's put together a remarkable 2025-26 campaign. Despite a 3-8 start and injuries to key players, the Monks rebounded to win 17 straight games — the third-longest active streak in the nation at the time — and finished 20-9 overall with a perfect 12-0 mark in conference play.

Saint Joseph's captured the GNAC Championship for the second year in a row with a win over second-seeded University of Saint Joseph, securing the program's third conference title since joining the league in 2007 and its fourth NCAA Tournament appearance overall. The Monks' season came to an end with a hard-fought 71-67 loss to Babson College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

NOTEWORTHY:

Quinn Newton, a 2018 Saint Joseph's graduate and a 1,000-point scorer as a four-year starter for the Monks, was named MMBCWA Coach of the Year after leading UMaine-Farmington to a 23-6 record, a North Atlantic Conference title, and a trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament — just the second such appearance in program history. Newton just completed his second season as the Beavers' leader.
