PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, a professional soccer club that competes in the Eastern Conference of the USL Championship, signed goalkeeper Mike Sheridan to a contract for the 2026 season with a club option for 2027 on March 3.
Sheridan, 24, spent the past two seasons with Philadelphia Union II, where he made 12 appearances and recorded two clean sheets for the MLS NEXT Pro club after making his professional debut in March 2024.
"Mike came highly recommended by trusted sources, and he impressed us with his performances during preseason. He'll be an excellent addition to our goalkeeping group this season," said Sporting Director Dan Visser.
Sheridan began his collegiate career at Saint Joseph's College of Maine, where he was named the 2022 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Year after allowing just 14 goals in 19 matches with five shutouts while contributing to three additional shared clean sheets.
In 2022, his lone season as Saint Joseph's starting goalkeeper, Sheridan earned GNAC Goalkeeper of the Year and First Team All-Conference honors after posting a 0.79 goals-against average with 47 saves, a .770 save percentage, five shutouts, and 1,594 minutes played.
"The transformation Mike made from his freshman year to his senior season was incredible," said Saint Joseph's Head Coach Will Pike '11. "His success didn't happen by accident. It came from years of hard work, dedication, and a relentless desire to improve. Mike is one of the most driven student-athletes I've had the opportunity to coach, and it's been rewarding to watch him earn the opportunity to continue his career at the professional level."
A native of the Philadelphia suburb of Folsom, Pennsylvania, Sheridan transferred closer to home for his final collegiate season in 2023 at Villanova University, where he was a teammate of Riverhounds midfielder Jorge Garcia.
Through 10 matches this season, the Riverhounds are tied for fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings with 16 points. The USL Championship is the second tier of the American soccer pyramid.
