Men's Lacrosse Posts Convincing Win on Senior Day

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's (8-9, 6-3 GNAC) toppled Rivier College (4-9, 1-8 GNAC), 18-2, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's lacrosse contest at Westerlea Way Field on Saturday afternoon. Senior attackman Jonathan Horgan (Hingham, Mass.) tallied two goals and five assists in the lopsided victory.

The Monks netted the game's first 11 goals, including 10 in the first half, in the 16-goal triumph. Nine different SJC players scored, including five who tallied multiple goals, on the afternoon. With the win Saint Joseph's earns the #5 seed in the GNAC Tournament and will play at #4 Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont on Wednesday at 4:00 PM.

Freshman Andrew Sullivan (Rochester, N.H.) led the way with four goals and added an assist while Jake Ricciardi (Sharon, Mass.) and Colby Main (Jericho, Vt.) added three markers apiece. Senior midfielder Paul Dolewa (Saco, Maine) tallied two goals, three assists and six ground balls and won all five of his face-off attempts and freshman midi Nathan Hopkins (Scarborough, Maine) corralled a career-high 10 ground balls while winning seven of 12 face-off bids.

Junior keeper Christopher Driscoll (Saco, Maine) recorded two saves and held the Raiders scoreless in the first half while first-year netminders Ethan Rettew (Ephrata, Pa.) and Jason Yasenchock (Rochester, N.H.) combined to make four saves while playing in net during the third and fourth quarters, respectively.

Sophomore Shawn Donovan (Tewksbury, Mass.) netted both of the Raiders' goals and won six of 14 face-off attempts in a losing effort. Teammate Kevin Conley (Nashua, N.H.) picked up a team-high seven ground balls and junior keeper Chris Benoit (Blackstone, Mass.) made 11 stops between the pipes for the visitors.

Prior to opening face-off, a brief ceremony was held in honor of the Monks' seniors: Dolewa, Horgan, Benson Pasquarello (Kennebunk, Maine) and Kody Peckham (West Gardiner, Maine). The quartet has helped the fifth-year program compile a 32-46 record during their time at St. Joe's and has accounted for 47% (322-690) of the Monks' scoring output over the last four years.

With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 3-0 in the history of the series with Rivier College.
