Box Score PROVIDENCE, RI-Johnson & Wales put together a dominant performance on Sunday afternoon, shutting out Saint Joseph's Maine 11-0 in a seven-inning matchup at home in Providence, Rhode Island.
The Wildcats' offense racked up 14 hits, while pitcher Aidan Vining was nearly untouchable. Vining tossed a complete-game one-hitter, striking out 12 and allowing just two walks in a commanding outing.
After a quiet first inning, Johnson & Wales got on the board in the second with an RBI single to right. The Wildcats took control in the third with three more runs on a two-RBI double followed with an RBI single.
The Wildcats added two more in the sixth and then put the game out of reach with a big five-run seventh inning, highlighted by a two-RBI double and a two-run homer.
The Monks struggled to generate offense, managing just one hit—a single from Vinny O'Leary (North Quincy, MA), who finished 1-for-3. On the mound, starter Dylan Brander allowed four earned runs over four innings, while the bullpen gave up seven more runs in the final three frames.
With the win, Johnson & Wales improved to 13-9, while Saint Joseph's dropped to 8-9.
