Box Score STANDISH, ME-The Saint Joseph's Monks baseball team improved to 16-16 with a solid 8-3 win over Mitchell College (20-15) Tuesday afternoon at Larry Mahaney Diamond. Saint Joe's jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, thanks in large part to a five-run fourth inning that broke the game wide open.
Jared Wilhelm (Tolland, CT) had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs to lead the Monks' offense. Nic Frink (Scarborough, ME)Â was right behind him, also collecting three hits, including a two-run double, and driving in three runs overall.
The Monks got on the board early, taking a 1-0 lead in the first after Frink singled through the right side to bring home Wilhelm. They tacked on two more in the second, taking advantage of a Mitchell error before Wilhelm ripped a two-run double into the gap in left-center.
The fourth inning was the turning point, as Saint Joe's erupted for five runs on six hits. RBI singles from Wilhelm, Jake Carlisle (Portsmouth, NH), Frink, and Dawson Gundlah (York, ME) helped stretch the lead to 8-0 and put the game out of reach.
On the mound, Dylan Brander (Merrimack, NH) picked up the win, going seven innings and allowing three runs on nine hits while striking out eight. Relievers Hugh Barett (Durham, CT) and Will Dionne (Somerset, MA) handled the final two frames, keeping Mitchell off the scoreboard.
